As of this January 1st, 2020 the minimum wage in Mexico rises

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, it will have a global increase of 20 percent, the largest in real terms in the last 44 years.

The general minimum wage in most of the country will go from 102.68 to 123.22 pesos per day as of Wednesday, which will represent an increase of 20 percent.

That consensus reached the National Minimum Wages Commission (Conasami), composed of federal authorities and representatives of the private and labor sectors.

The increase was determined from the salary of 2019, to which were added 14.67 percent through the so-called Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) and applying an increase of 5.0 percent.

So the current minimum wage will have a global increase of 20 percent, the highest in real terms in the last 44 years, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) reported.

In the North Border Free Zone, it will go from 176.72 pesos in force to 185.56 pesos per day in 2020, the amount of which was reached after applying a 5.0 percent increase.

That increase will mean an amount of $ 9.4 per day in that area of the country, where this year the general minimum wage doubled and professionals adjusted to reach the level of the general.

The announcement, made on December 16, was well received by virtually all sectors, with the intention of recovering the purchasing power of Mexican workers.

The federal government, along with some specialists, said that this adjustment of the minimum wage will not have any consequences on price formation or inflation.

This is based on the experience of this 2019, when the minimum wage increased 16 percent and inflation fell to below 3.0 percent annually last November.
