Bad Bunny is the artist most listened to by Mexicans on Spotify in 2020

The reggaeton player of Puerto Rican origin not only conquered the national public, he also became the most listened to artist in the world according to company data.

Bad Bunny is the most listened to artist of the year. Spotify released the results of the artists, albums, songs and podcasts that captivated the number of reproductions of users in Mexico and the entire world, highlighting the reggaeton singer of Puerto Rican origin.

More than 320 million people around the world made their preferences clear when listening to music on the streaming platform. Again, Latin rhythms prevailed by sweeping the global ranking shared by Spotify. 

Our country followed the global trend by establishing Bad Bunny at number one. The singer collected more than 8.3 billion streams from users around the world with his hits, mainly from his album YHLQMDLG, which arrived in February of this year, a few months before the Coronavirus pandemic was declared.

This is the second year in a row that the artist has achieved such success. His album also tops the list of the most listened to albums of the year and his single Safaera is the fourth of the lists of songs most listened to by Mexicans. 

Everything clearly indicates that reggaeton conquered the Mexicans and that it was a companion of isolation in quarantine. Another fact that proves this is the second position, which is occupied by the reggaeton singer of Colombian origin, J Balvin, whose album Colores occupies the second national position in its category. 

In the female branch, there were no big surprises, since the first place was dominated by Karol G with his hit Tusa, this being the song most played by Mexicans.

For his part, the singer Christian Nodal positioned the Mexican regional genre by occupying the third place in the most listened to in Mexico. His career has risen considerably this year and his Ayayai material count was a fundamental part of his success.

Podcast, the new Mexican favorite

This genre has established itself in Mexican listeners. This year the companions of the Mexicans were legendary Legends in the first place as the most listened to captivating by their real and fictitious macabre stories. In second place is Horoscope for Today and in third place Doubts are given away, the podcast of the duo of Lety Sahagún and Ashley Frangie. 

Latinos dominating the world

As we mentioned earlier, Latino artists have also dominated streaming from Spotify. This year, 5 of 20 artists in the Global Top 20 are Latino: Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Anuel AA, Ozuna and Daddy Yankee, all of them, representatives of the reggaeton genre. 

In the most listened to globally is Bad Bunny and in the female part the singer Billie Eilish who swept her album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP DO WE GO ?. 

The most listened to worldwide was as follows:

  2. Drake 
  3. J Balvin 
  4. Juice WRLD 
  5. The Weeknd 

The most listened song of the world was in charge of The Weeknd with ‘Blinding Lights’, which became a viral subject with multiple videos in social networks like Tik Tok.
