A group of taxi drivers that calls itself the United Group of Taxi Drivers of the State of Morelos has called for a series of blockades at different points in Cuernavaca this January 15, starting at 7 in the morning. The protest aims to reject taxes and fees in the state, since, according to the organizers, these affect both transporters and owners of private vehicles.
It is important to highlight that this group of taxi drivers, who have remained anonymous, intend to block key points such as the Paloma de la Paz, the General Coordination of Mobility and Transportation, located within the Plaza Cristal on Av. Plan de Ayala, the State Congress and Avenida Morelos, near the town of Chipitlán. These actions could generate significant traffic chaos and affect traffic on the main roads in the city.
This measure, although intended as a form of pressure, could cause significant disruption to traffic, especially during rush hour, when thousands of drivers will be caught in roadblocks with no possibility of deviating from their usual routes.
The taxi drivers’ group has expressed its disagreement with the costs related to vehicle registration and vehicle verification, as well as with the alleged excessive fines in the General Coordination of Mobility and Transport, where the lack of a clear schedule for applying sanctions is alleged.
In addition, the transporters questioned the situation of transport platform vehicles, arguing that they are not required to comply with the same taxes and regulations as taxi drivers and public vehicle dealers. The protesters demand equality in fiscal and operational conditions, pointing out that the taxes they must pay are excessive compared to the lack of regulation in other forms of transport.
Despite this call, no other organization of taxi drivers, dealers or private vehicle owners has spoken out about the possibility of joining the protest.
