The State Government’s Secretariat of Sustainable Development has asked municipalities to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy toward the sale of animals during fairs and carnival celebrations.
In an interview, the head of the agency, Alan Dupré Ramírez, reported that next Tuesday they will send a circular to the municipalities instructing them to issue fines to those who sell animals.
The state official asked mayors to be responsible in animal welfare and to strengthen inspections to ensure that the illegal sale of animals does not occur.
He reminded them that the law prohibits the sale of domestic and wild animals in public spaces and at fairs, and that fines can be imposed on those who violate the regulations.
