With the goal of improving urban cleanliness and promoting sustainable practices, the Cuernavaca City Council, led by Mayor José Luis Urióstegui Salgado, launched “Green Routes” this Thursday. This initiative transforms the city’s plant waste into compost and organic fertilizer using a BC1000XL wood chipper, provided by Comercializadora Trideza, the company responsible for the collection, transportation, and final disposal of waste in the capital of Morelos.
Every day, the city generates large quantities of branches, foliage, and garden debris that, when accumulated, affect mobility and the perception of urban cleanliness. With “Green Routes,” this waste will have a productive purpose, contributing to the care and beautification of the city’s parks, gardens, and green spaces.
During the program’s launch, Mayor José Luis Urióstegui thanked Trideza for its collaboration and highlighted that the new wood chipper complements the stump grinder acquired last year, strengthening efforts to make Cuernavaca a clean, orderly, and attractive city.
Gilberto Ávila Portilla, representative of Trideza, explained that the wood chipper will be operated in coordination with the Parks and Gardens and Urban Cleaning departments of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development and Public Services (SDSySP). The shredded waste will be transported in an eight-ton Freightliner truck to municipal composting sites, where it will be transformed into natural fertilizer for public spaces.
The initial investment of three million pesos for this machinery and the truck is entirely covered by Trideza. The BC1000XL wood chipper can shred branches, foliage, and trunks up to 30.5 cm (12 inches) in eight-hour shifts, generating specific compost to maintain healthy and sustainable green areas.
Representatives from Trideza and the SDSySP also attended the event, as well as residents of the San Cristóbal neighborhood, who expressed their surprise and satisfaction with the implementation of “Green Routes.” This action promotes the circular economy, protects the environment and contributes to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants, ensuring cleaner, greener and more attractive public spaces for all citizens.
