AMLO’s government considers rehabilitation of Morelos Airport

The General Mariano Matamoros Airport, also known as Cuernavaca Airport, is an airport located in Temixco, Morelos, Mexico, near Cuernavaca. It handles only national air traffic for the state capital Cuernavaca.

Mexico’s government is mulling rehabilitating the underused Marino Matamoros airport in Morelos state following the opening of the 84.9bn-peso (US$4bn) Felipe Ángeles international airport (AIFA) in Mexico state on Monday.

The Morelos airport, mainly used for private jet and helicopter operations, is managed by state-owned operator ASA

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during a press conference in Morelos on Friday that the idea had already been brought up by governor Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
