In Cuernavaca, the state capital of Morelos, intentional homicide increased by 20 percent from one year to the next, according to the most recent Security report presented by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC).
Yesterday, at the morning press conference, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, head of the SSyPC, presented the results of the monthly Security report that covers the entire country, in which she indicated that there was a reduction in federal crimes, such as people smuggling, financial crimes, organized crime crimes and crimes committed by public servants, while those that registered an increase were crimes related to firearms and explosives and tax crimes.
Regarding common law crimes, he stressed that since the beginning of the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, intentional homicide has registered a decrease, and last June the lowest number of homicides in the last six years was presented.
Rodríguez Velázquez announced that of the 50 priority municipalities, including Cuernavaca, 28 registered a decrease in homicides, 21 municipalities registered an increase, while one municipality remained unchanged.
In the case of Cuernavaca, from July 2022 to June 2023, there was an increase in intentional homicides, going from 168 to 203 cases, which represents a 20 percent increase, which is why it remains within the municipalities with the highest level of violence. in the country.
The head of the SSyPC pointed out that it is necessary to continue working in a coordinated manner, to continue with good results and to lower crime rates, however, it must be remembered that Cuernavaca is the only municipality in Morelos that is not part of the strategy of security of the Coordinated Command and, despite the support it receives from the State Commission for Public Security, the results in terms of security are practically nonexistent.
