After an absence of nearly a decade, the iconic Tequesquitengo Triathlon will return on April 18. The Morelos government confirmed the revival of this competition, which aims to solidify the “Sea of Morelos” as an international benchmark for high-performance sports.
The event anticipates a massive turnout of between 2,000 and 2,500 athletes from various parts of Mexico and abroad.
The Secretary of Tourism, Daniel Altafi Valladares, emphasized that the return of this sporting event is not only an athletic achievement but also a key element for the financial recovery of service providers in the southern region.
“After seven years, this triathlon returns as an event that attracts visitors, boosts hotel occupancy, and directly benefits local restaurants and businesses,” the official stated.
Positioning Morelos as a destination for sports tourism is one of the current administration’s priorities, leveraging the climatic and geographic infrastructure offered by Lake Tequesquitengo.
Wilber Moguel, representative of As Deporte, indicated that the return of the venue responds to a long-standing request from triathletes.
“It was an event that the community had been requesting; today it returns in one of the destinations with the greatest potential in the country,” he stated.
What you should know if you plan to attend
If you are an athlete or spectator, keep the following key points in mind for April 18:
Main venue: Lake Tequesquitengo, municipality of Jojutla.
Categories: The event will feature different categories for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Expectations: A significant economic boost is expected for the southern region of the state under the institutional motto “The Land That Unites Us.”
