Protesters have blocked traffic on Highway 115D near the Santiago Tepetlapa area of Tepoztlan, Morelos State, as of Jan. 24.
Activists are demanding authorities provide residents with access to new roads. Organizers have indicated that the action could last indefinitely if their demands are not met. The demonstration has disrupted highway access to Cuernavaca.
Heightened security, in addition to transport and business disruptions, will likely persist in the area. Clashes are possible if security forces try to disperse protesters forcibly.
