“Science for All” project launched in Morelos

From the San Miguel Acapantzingo Ecological Park, Governor Margarita González Saravia launched the “Science for All” project, whose objective is to bring scientific activities to the population of Morelos, with special attention to people with disabilities.

During the inauguration, the governor reaffirmed her commitment to work in coordination with Congress and her cabinet to build a more inclusive society.

She pointed out that, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in Morelos there are nearly 300 thousand people with disabilities, which led her administration to prioritize actions in favor of this sector.

“We are a humanist government and we want Morelos to become a supportive, fraternal and inclusive society. When touring the state, we found that disability is an especially difficult issue when there is poverty, so all the ministries are working on it,” said the state governor.

For his part, Jaime Arau Roffiel, director of the Council of Science and Technology of the State of Morelos (CCyTEM), said that scientific dissemination constitutes a strategic axis for the Council. However, he stressed that, following the instructions of the Governor, work is being done to ensure that these activities are accessible to people of all ages, regions and conditions.

“With this inclusive science event, we are taking the first steps towards a museum that is truly accessible. Our goal is that all people, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy and learn,” said Roffiel.

During the event, the Astronomical and Life rooms, the Earth House and the Science Trailer, offered sensory elements for people with visual disabilities and specialists in sign language to serve people with hearing disabilities. In addition, the EcoMarket with Inclusion was installed, which brings together entrepreneurs with disabilities.

Arau Roffiel added that the workshop leaders are in the process of training so that these inclusive sessions can be held periodically and also mentioned that more people with disabilities will be invited to participate in tours and activities adapted to their needs.
